Martyna Kotwila is a Polish track and field athlete, who competes in sprints. She is a European Championships silver medalist, as well as World U20 Championships bronze medalist and a multiple national champion. In 2018, she ran 22.99 sec in the 200m, breaking the long-standing Polish junior record.
Martyna Kotwila was born on January 13, 1999, in Radom, Poland. She started in athletics at an early age and quickly showed talent in sprints and running, becoming one of the biggest talents in the country.
Martyna Kotwila started her competitive career in 2013, winning the 100m bronze at the Radom Polish U16 Championships. Meanwhile, during the season she won the gold at local meetings in Radom and Paslek.
During the next two seasons, she proved to be one of the top junior sprinters in the country, winning the bronze medals at the Toru, Polish U18 Indoor Championships, and Lodz Polish U18 Championships, but also debuted at the senior national championships, finishing second in 4x100m relay at the 2015 Krakow Polish Championships.
In 2016, Martyna Kotwila made her international debut at a major championship, finishing 4th in the 4x400m relay at the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships, but won the silver at the Tbilisi European U18 Championships in the 1,000m medley sprint. Meanwhile, she won the 100m and 200m silver at the Wroclaw Polish U18 Championships, as well as the 60m bronze at the Spala Polish U18 Indoor Championships.
Martyna Kotwila started the 2017 season by winning the 200m gold and 60m bronze at the Torun Polish U20 Indoor Championships, as well as competing at the Lodz Orlen Cup. During the outdoor season, she won the 200m gold and 100m silver at the Torun Polish U20 Championships and also competed at the Grosseto European U20 Championships, finishing 7th in the final.
In 2018, Martyna Kotwila made her best individual achievement so far, winning the 200m silver at the Tampere IAAF World U20 Championships. She also competed at the Berlin European Athletics Championships, finishing 6th in the 4x100m relay and failing to overcome the semi-finals in the 200m. Meanwhile, she won her first national title, triumphing with the 200m gold at the Lublin Polish Championships, but also won the 200m silver at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships.
In 2019, Martyna Kotwila continued dominating Polish athletics in 200m, winning the gold at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships, but finished only 7th at the Radom Polish Championships, although being one of the favorites for the title. However, she won the Lublin Polish U23 Championships in 100m and 200m. Martyna Kotwila competed at the Gavle European U23 Championships and although did not reach the finals in 200m, she won the bronze in the 4x100m relay. Moreover, in the 4x100m relay, she won the silver at the Warszawa Memorial Zygmunt Szelest and finished 6th at the London Muller Anniversary Games.
Martyna Kotwila won the 200m and 4x100m relay silver medals at the Wloclawek Polish Championships, as well as the 200m silver at the Jozef Zylewicz Memorial Meeting and 100m silver at the Janusz Sidlo Memorial Meeting.
In 2021, Martyna Kotwila did not make a strong individual performance and failed to win an honor at a major championship, but won 4x400m relay silver and 4x100m bronze at the Poznan Polish Championships.
In 2022, Martyna Kotwila was part of the Polish 4x400m women’s relay for the Eugene World Athletics Championships and Munich European Athletics Championships but missed reaching the final in both of the competitions. However, she won the 200m gold and 100m bronze at the Suwalki Polish Championships, as well as the 100m gold at the Szczecin 5. Memorial Wieslawa Maniaka.
Martyna Kotwila started the 2023 season strongly by winning the 200m gold and 60m silver at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships and silver at the Karsten Warholm Invitation AL, but also competed at the Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships in 60m, failing to qualify for the finals. During the outdoor season, she won the 200m silver and 100m bronze at the Gorzow Wielkopolski Polish Championships, as well as the gold at the Oulu Motonet GP and the silver at the Kladno hazà a Kladenske Memorialy 2023 in 200m and the bronze at the Joensuu Motonet GP in 100m.
Martyna Kotwila won the 200m gold at the Torun Polish Indoor Championships in 2024 and also finished 4th at the Orlen Cup Lodz in 100m. She was part of the 4x100m women’s relay team of Poland for the Nassau World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 but did not earn an honor.
